Abstract:

Based on a review of HTRI methods and open literature concerning two-phase flow in circular pipes, we have determined that the Petalas and Aziz mechanistic model is particularly promising for predicting flow regimes, void fractions, and pressure drops in circular pipes. Because data from large-diameter pipes are scarce, available correlations are biased towards small-diameter pipes. Further evaluation of the HTRI flow regime and pressure drop predictions for large-diameter pipe flows is warranted.
