Abstract:

The current HTRI laminar horizontal tubeside methodology is based on about 600 data points for inside tube diameters ranging from 10 to 65 mm and lengths from 0.305 to 6.1 m. This study was undertaken to ascertain the validity of extrapolating the HTRI laminar horizontal methods to diameters in the range of 100 – 425 mm and lengths on the order of 102 – 104 m, which are common in pipeline applications. Although large horizontal pipes are of primary interest in this study, flow and heat transfer in large vertical tubes are briefly discussed.
