S-SS-3-20 Single-Phase Heat Transfer Outside Inline Plain and Low-Finned Tube Bundles

Abstract:

HTRI measured heat transfer to single-phase vapor n-pentane in pure cross flow outside two ideal banks of tubes in an inline (90-degree) layout. One bundle consisted of plain tubes and another of low-finned tubes. The data indicate that HTRI Xchanger Suite® 6 predicts heat transfer in vapor service outside inline plain tube bundles within ± 20 percent; however, it overpredicts heat transfer for vapor service outside inline low-finned tube bundles. Additional experimental or numerical studies are needed to develop an improved model for a future version of Xchanger Suite. In the interim, we propose a de-rating factor.
