Abstract:

Most shell-and-tube heat exchangers use segmental, segmental no-tubes-in-window, or double-segmental baffles. To date, all HTRI data have been taken using these types of baffles. However, other baffle types can have advantages in cases with special process requirements such as better flow distribution or maximum efficiency in pressure drop utilization. This report reviews the most common non-segmental baffle types, compares their advantages and disadvantages, and presents methods for preliminary estimation of heat transfer and pressure drop.
