Abstract:

Several air-cooler fin tubes, in new, used, and artificially corroded conditions, were tested for heat transfer in the HTRI small wind tunnel. Steam at 250 °F and 370 °F was condensed inside 1-ft long test sections with air face velocities from 300 to 2000 ft/min. Test results were compared to those of an all aluminum integral fin reference tube to determine the effect of fin bond resistance. Types of finned tubes tested so far include integral fin, L-footed, embedded fin, bimetallic extruded, and a few special knurled L-footed tubes.
