Abstract:

Xist® incremental analysis methods for kettles have been validated using numerous industry designs. This article discusses recommended thermal design practices for a kettle vaporizer and a kettle reboiler using Xist, includes tips to establish reliable and accurate designs, and indicates remaining areas for improvement in research and software development. For complete vaporization with pure components, confidence in thermal ratings is high when a large fraction of the bundle liquid flow recirculates and no bundle dryout is predicted. For partial vaporization of mixtures with a liquid draw-off, confidence in thermal ratings is high when a small portion of the bundle liquid flow rate recirculates.
