PHE-12 Condensation in Plate Heat Exchangers
In Xphe® 3.0, we originally implemented literature condensate film correlations for the condensation of pure components in gravity-controlled and shear-controlled flow regimes. In a plate boiling study conducted in 2003, HTRI also collected heat transfer data from a plate condenser using a modified Alfa Laval Evaporator Test Module. To improve the condensate film method in our software, we examined the literature correlations against these data and extended the HTRI Resistance Proration Method (RPM) for condensation of mixtures to plate condensers. These newly developed heat transfer methods produce reasonable predictions for the condensation of pure components and binary mixtures.
