PFE-2 Single-Phase Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Methods for Plate-Fin Heat Exchangers

HTRI has reviewed published methods for predicting single phase f- and j- factors in plate-fin heat exchangers, including plain, serrated, herringbone, and louvered fins. This report compares these correlations using the limited data available in open literature. Because so few data have been recorded, we cannot yet determine the effect of the Prandtl number or account for irregularities caused by manufacturing processes. No changes to HTRI methods are recommended based on this study.
