Abstract:

Current HTRI tubeside methods are primarily for small tubes used in shell-and-tube exchangers. Pressure drop methods for use with the larger pipes (diameter ³ 10 cm) in fired heaters were needed. HTRI surveyed the open literature and identified two methods that should improve the accuracy and applicability of the pressure drop methods for larger pipes: an implicit formulation of the Colebrook-White function that offers an improved isothermal friction factor, and an algebraic formulation of the Chenoweth-Martin graphical correlation suitable for two-phase pressure drops in large pipes.
