F-EX-1-4 Fouling Measurement Techniques and Apparatus

Several measurement techniques for studying fouling on heat transfer surfaces are presented. A brief discussion of the technical aspects of fouling and heat transfer is given. Four research units of different designs are described; three for studying tubeside fouling and one for shellside fouling. The advantages, disadvantages, and performance of each are discussed.

The prime purpose of this report is to present the fouling measurement techniques and designs developed by HTRI and to propose these designs as standards for the industry.
