Abstract:

Under contract with HTRI, a literature review of freshwater fouling research and associated mitigation measures was conducted. This report describes how water velocity and wall temperature affect fouling rate; how exchanger design practices influence fouling propensity; how surface modification influences the induction of fouling; how filtration, injected projectiles, and added fibers can mitigate fouling; and how initial fouling deposit impacts fouling resistance. The results of this review are being used to plan future HTRI-sponsored water fouling research.
