Abstract:

This report reviews and summarizes all previous HTRI cooling tower water fouling studies. Predictive methods presented here are based on over 400 data runs performed for HTRI at Oregon State University under the direction of Professor James G. Knudsen. Results show that water composition significantly affects fouling rates. Water components tested included chromate and phosphate corrosion inhibitors, soluble and particulate iron, and a large number of dispersant additives, some of which were quite effective.
