Abstract:

A review is presented of the various methods of testing the performance of a bundle of finned tubes. The different types of wind tunnels and experimental procedures with their respective advantages and disadvantages are described. A detailed description of the HTRI wind tunnel is given.

Methods of data reduction and a general error analysis are presented. In particular, the possible effects of flow non-uniformity on the accuracy of the heat transfer coefficients are shown.

This report can serve as a guide for the evaluation of the quality of data on the performance of finned tube bundles.
