Abstract:

HTRI recently collected experimental data on the Low Pressure Condensation Unit (LPCU) for tubeside condensation of pure component fluids with pressures ranging from 0.4 to 30.3 kPa (3.0 to 227.3 Torr). These data indicate that mist-annular and shear-controlled flow dominate the heat transfer process for tubeside condensation under high vacuum. Our current condensate film heat transfer correlations underpredict experimental data by about 5 to 20 percent in the mist-annular and shear-controlled flow regions. This report presents the experimental data and summarizes improvements to our methods, including a new correction factor and the definition of the transition region for mist-annular flow.
