Abstract:

Over the last three decades, HTRI has developed different correlations for intube film boiling heat transfer based on experimental data. Recently, HTRI has compiled data in the transition boiling and complete film boiling regions from our Multipurpose Boiling Unit (MBU) using both pure components and hydrocarbon mixtures as test fluids. By analyzing the mixture data, we found that no mixture correction is necessary when we apply the film boiling correlation for pure components to the mixture data that had boiling ranges less than 56 °C. A physical property correction factor has been introduced so that the corrections extrapolate well to other fluids and process conditions. We also updated the film boiling heat transfer method for twisted tape inserts.
