BG1-5 Nucleate Boiling of Refrigerants on Horizontal Low-Finned Tubes
Refrigerants are commonly boiled on horizontal integral low-finned tubes in refrigeration and process chillers (evaporators). The enhancement of the boiling heat transfer coefficients (based on total outside area) due to fins has been observed especially at low temperature differences. This report discusses the predictive methods for heat transfer coefficients of boiling refrigerants on plain tubes and low-finned tubes. An HTRI data bank is formed for boiling of refrigerants on finned tubes based on recent HTRI research and published studies. A new boiling surface factor correlation is developed for commercial low-finned tubes.
