BG1-4 Nucleate Pool Boiling of Hydrocarbons on Horizontal Low-Finned Tubes

Finned tubes greatly enhance the pure fluid nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficient at low temperature differences. Previously, there were no data for boiling hydrocarbon mixtures, and the effectiveness of fins for these important fluids was questionable. New data show that fins are still very effective even for wide-boiling-range fluids but there is less enhancement than for pure fluids.

A new correlation is presented which predicts the increase in nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficients due to fins for a wide range of pure and mixed hydrocarbons.
