Abstract:

The most commonly used agitated vessel heat transfer surfaces and impellers are covered and preliminary selection criteria are given in this report. Equations for the determination of the time for the heating or cooling of a batch of liquid for the most typical agitated vessel systems are given in some detail. The main intent of this report is to provide heat transfer correlations to enable the design engineer to predict the amount of heat to be transferred with reasonable accuracy. The recommended heat transfer correlations are tabulated separately for jacketed vessels, helical coils, and baffle-type coils. The chapter finishes with a brief discussion on the jacket side and helical coil side coefficient predictions for most typical cooling and heating media.
