Abstract:

In shellside reboilers, boiling in crossflow across tubes is a common process. The heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the reboiler are dependent on the two-phase flow patterns and void fraction. The methods in the literature for flow regimes, void fraction, pressure drop, and heat transfer for boiling in cross and axial flows outside horizontal tubes are discussed.
