Careers - Director, Research
HTRI seeks an individual to lead and direct the HTRI research program, and to help ensure proprietary experimental research is conducted according to plan. This individual will assist in coordinating activities with the HTRI Technical Committee (TC). This staff person is expected to work from our Navasota, Texas headquarters.
Principal Responsibilities
- Prioritize and recommend research projects for inclusion in the Technical Operating Plan (TOP). Propose projects to enhance HTRI’s technology and provide value to HTRI.
- Review project specifications, equipment needs, budgets, and schedules. Assign specific projects to staff and staff to Task Forces.
- In conjunction with the Senior Vice Presidents, Engineering and Software Development, formulate the Technical Operating Plan (TOP) and prepare semi-annual progress reports. Solicit review and comments on the TOP from the TC and Communication Committees.
- In conjunction with the Senior Vice President, Engineering, ensure that the Senior Vice President, Software Development receives appropriate documentation for staff to implement methods into HTRI’s engineering software products.
- Supervise researchers and foster their professional development. Oversee and participate in Task Force activities.
- Review and edit technical reports and Design Manual; write newsletter articles.
- In conjunction with the Senior Vice Presidents, Engineering and Software Development, organize and participate in TC meetings.
- Coordinate the Technical Session at the annual HTRI Global Conference. This includes identifying presenters and topics, reviewing presentations and posters, presenting research results, and moderating the session.
- Respond or assign staff to respond to complex technical inquiries forwarded by the Manager, Engineering Services.
- Monitor research related to heat transfer and developments in software technology, as well as major developments in industry. Provide an overall vision and plan for leading in long-range technology development.
- Help develop and revise training material.
Qualifications
- PhD, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- Supervisory experience of a team consisting of at least some senior-level staff
- 15 years of relevant engineering experience
- Good communication and presentation skills (oral and written)
Preferred but not essential
- Business experience in bringing engineering products and/or services to market
- Extensive knowledge (15 years) of HTRI products, HTRI research methods, and understanding of membership needs
