Careers - Engineer, Research

HTRI seeks an individual to develop, manage, and execute assigned HTRI research projects involving the acquisition of experimental data, analytical research, and the correlation of data. This position offers a hybrid schedule, with some workdays at our Navasota, Texas headquarters.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Identify potential short- and long-range research projects; with guidance, prepare project specifications for short- and long-range research projects; draft schedules for assigned projects.
  • With guidance, propose experimental program, as well as designs for new test units and modifications of existing test units.
  • Execute experiments; collect and evaluate test data; prepare project progress reports.
  • Develop new correlations and design methods in heat transfer technology using test data and/or analytical models.
  • Provide software development staff with accurate data and methods to produce software-based design methods for process heat transfer equipment.
  • Respond to technical inquiries related to domain expertise.
  • Write HTRI technical reports, Design Manual sections, and newsletter articles; maintain experimental data records; make presentations at HTRI Global Conference and other technical conferences.
  • Upon request, prepare materials for and present workshops, short courses, and webinars.
  • Execute contract research projects.

Qualifications

  • PhD, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Doctoral or industrial research experience related to HTRI's mission and a proven record of successful research endeavors
  • Knowledge of precedents, practices, and principles of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics; area of specialization may vary according to current/anticipated research needs of HTRI
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written)
  • Proficient data analysis skills and capability to develop calculation tools to manipulate measured data into meaningful results

Preferred but Not Essential

  • Familiarity with fluid and heat transfer numerical methods or use of commercial software to implement these methods
  • Knowledge of Python or other data analysis programming languages
