Instructors: Joseph W. Holmes
Date: April 10, 2013
Time: 09:00 - 17:30
Fee: US$400
Do you design only air-cooled heat exchangers? Evaluate their performance? Then this workshop is for you. Unlike the Xchanger Suite workshops, this course focuses on air-cooler geometry.
Learn how to use Xace effectively to rate and design air-cooled heat exchangers, economizers, and air preheaters. All example problems and practice exercises relate to real-world applications.
Key Topics
- Overview of Xace capabilities and applications
- Geometry inputs for air coolers and economizers
- Process specifications for rating, simulation, and design
- Guidelines for specifying fluid properties
- Introduction to HTRI analysis methods

Even if your work is limited to shell-and-tube heat exchangers, there is much to be learned! This workshop is devoted to the geometries handled only by Xist.
The day focuses on the extensive options available in Xist and how you can use these methods effectively to solve several example problems. You will leave the class knowing how to take full advantage of the features this robust tool offers.

Because vibration can cause critical operating problems in heat exchangers, it is important to analyze the potential for flowinduced vibration.
This workshop teaches you how to develop an input file, interpret results, and obtain accurate prediction of the vibration potential for installed units. Using Xvib you will practice determining if a heat exchanger is susceptible to vibration damage.
Key Topics
- Analysis methods for fluidelastic instability and vortex shedding
- Velocity profile development
- Vibration susceptibility

Event Registration Policies
An “event” is any series of HTRI sessions including training, conferences, or other official sessions occurring on one or more consecutive business days. These policies are subject to change without notice.
Registration Deadline
The registration deadline for all HTRI events is five business days prior to the event. Specific deadlines for each event are listed on the HTRI website.*
Onsite Registration
We regret that we are unable to accommodate onsite registration for events. All registrations must be made at least five days prior to the date of the event. Registrants already attending an event and wishing to attend another session during the same event may register onsite if space is available.*
Early Registration Discount
Registrants are eligible for a discounted fee on certain sessions when registering at least 60 calendar days prior to the event AND paying by credit card. Early registration discounts are not available for wire transfers or other forms of payment. Availability of discounts is noted on the HTRI website.
HTRI Cancellation or Postponement
If HTRI cancels or postpones an event for any reason, registrants may choose one of the following options:
Registrant Cancellation/Late Cancellation/No Show
Registrants who cancel their registration in writing at least 30 days prior to an event are eligible for a full refund of the registration fee or may apply their registration fee to another HTRI session or event occurring within 12 months of the date of the original event.
If written notice of cancellation is received less than 30 calendar days but more than five business days prior to the event, a US$50 cancellation fee will be deducted from any requested refund. Alternatively, you may choose to apply your fee to another HTRI event occurring within 12 months of the date of the original event with no penalty.
Registrants who cancel their registration in writing less than five business days prior to an event or who are not present on the day of the event are not eligible for a refund. However, if another session is occurring at the same event, the registrant may attend that event instead, provided that space is still available.
Registrants who fail to show up without providing written notice prior to the start time of the event are not eligible for a refund or to receive credit toward a different session or event.
Late Arrivals/Early Departures
Registrants may arrive late to an event, though you may not be immediately seated if doing so would unduly disrupt the event in progress. Partial refunds will not be granted for registrants who do not attend an entire session or event.
Substitutions
Registrants may transfer their registration to another person at any time up to five business days prior to the event. After that, we regretfully are unable to accommodate substitutions unless the transfer is to a person already attending a different session at the same event.*
*This policy is necessary to provide us with sufficient time to comply with U.S. Federal export law. HTRI is required to compare registrant names against several lists of sanctioned countries and persons.
